Proudly original and ever defiant, Gala has always been the kind of woman to forge her own path. In exchange for a photo of a European DJ she recorded her first demo. In no time, with no formal training, no industry connections, but huge amounts of attitude and determination, Gala became a dance floor icon. Mailed overseas on a cassette tape, her single “Freed from Desire” became an international pop classic. In 1997 Gala was nominated for the “Best Dance Act” at the Mobo Awards in the UK, up against Prodigy, Chemical Brothers and Orbital and was awarded “Best Foreign Artist of the Year” at the Midem music conference in Cannes, France. Her album Come into My Life was released in 1998 with four singles charting in the Top 20 across Europe, selling a combined six million records worldwide. She was awarded a Gold record in the UK, and earned Platinum and Diamond records in Belgium and France where she performed in venues such as Bercy Stadium in Paris and appeared on TV shows such as “Top of the Pops” in the UK alongside Janet Jackson, Oasis and Paul Weller. In 2005 she released the song “Faraway” (EMI) in France and Greece, where it reached No.1 on iTunes and No.6 in CD sales. The song has been covered by the Greek singer Tamta (winner of the Greek “Idol” TV show) and has been featured on a TV ad campaign in the states. Invited to do a headlining performance at “Dance in the Summer” in Beirut in alongside Taio Cruz, T-Pain and Dev, Gala presented a new song. The organizer of the event, Radio Mix FM, the official No.1 radio outlet in the Middle East, believed from the first listen that Gala’s new single “Lose Yourself In Me” was a hit and started playing it on high rotation. In just a few weeks Gala’s new single reached No.2 in the Top 10 Radio’s play list. Gala also has built quite the following on social media too, with over two million views on YouTube and 15,000 “likes” on her Facebook page. Brisbane’s Cub Scouts had a rollercoaster ride in 2012, starting the year with their infectious ditty “Evie” taking over the airwaves, landing in high rotation on Triple J, solidifying their reputation in Australia and bookending the year with “Told You So” eclipsing that success and becoming a buzz single on U.S. radio. In between, the quintet toured nationally with the likes of Ball Park Music, Pluto Jonze and Loon Lake and won the Queensland Music Awards Song of the Year for their second single “Do You Hear.” This year has so far seen the band going from strength to strength with interest building extremely fast overseas. The band are scheduled to make a special appearance in Los Angeles early May and have also been selected to perform at seminal UK festival The Great Escape in May, with their new UK team already working the band and adding more European dates daily and global interest spiraling at a rate of knots as a result. In short, Cub Scouts are one of the hottest bands to emerge in 2013 and A&R and publisher interest is reaching fever pitch across Australia, the US and Europe. Preview “Told You So” taken from the Cub Scouts’ debut EP of the same name.
