In 2007 lead singer and songwriter Jesse-James Cameron formed Makeshift Innocence, a four-piece that also includes Tammy Amstutz on bass guitar, Brad Simons on lead guitar and Fred Brenton on drums. Cameron lived and went to school in Negril, Jamaica, where he fell in love with the tones and feel of reggae–music that now infuses the Canadian group’s rock, reggae, pop and roots sounds, with key influences ranging from Bob Marley to Sublime. Known as one of Western Canada’s best live acts, they were chosen to showcase at several industry conferences, including Canadian Music Week, COCA (Canadian Organization Campus Activities), MUSEXPO Los Angeles and the Worldwide Radio Summit. Although Makeshift Innocence was built around a live show, they remain one of the few Alberta-based acts that can expect to receive major commercial radio airplay. Independently, they have already received radio play at Canadian CHR and Hot AC stations as well as numerous stations in the states, Germany, South Africa, UK and Japan.

Growing up in a small town in the Netherlands, Thomas Azier focused most of his free time on making music because, frankly, there wasn’t too much else to do. What started out as a childhood hobby, translated into a full-time career for Azier. Like many young musicians today, he began producing songs on his computer. At the age of 19, he left the Netherlands and moved to Berlin on an ambitious whim. After four years of tirelessly honing his sound, he emerged with his debut EP, Hylas 001, released on his own label, Hylas Records/BMG Rights Management. Bridging the analog and digital worlds with symphonic precision, Azier’s music is an anthem for the present, pulling from the past and looking to the future. He is set to release the Hylas 002 EP on October 22nd. The new EP continues to deliver beautiful soundscapes that Thomas has been known to create, especially with the epic and haunting gem, “Angelene.”
Queensland is a state of Australia that is known for their outdoor lifestyle with world-class beaches, rain forests, national parks and waterways. Queensland is also a hotbed for musicians as it’s responsible for the likes of Dead Letter Circus, Hungry Kids of Hungary, The Boat People and many others. Hoping to join that list is four-piece Brit pop outfit, Oceanics. Their love for similar music brought them together in 2005 and they’ve been able to turn many into bonafide fans. With Elliot (guitar, vocals), Jackson (guitar, vocals), Andy (drums) and Matt (bass, vocals), the Oceanics have been gigging relentlessly in Australia, increasing their fan base one show at a time. They have performed at Big Sound, Caloundra Music Festival and played in front of 27,000 in the audience at a Gold Coast Titan’s (Rugby) semi-final. Their latest offering from their Bright People EP is the upbeat and infectious single, “The City,” which is already getting support from Triple J. The Oceanics are currently touring Australia with The Salvadors with upcoming stops in Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Sydney.

Nashville, TN may be best known as a Country music mecca, but there is another movement that is coming from the south and it’s the return of rock & roll. Leading that movement is The Kicks, a four-piece eclectic, indie rock outfit that bring massive melodies, epic guitar riffs, irresistible rhythms and lyrics that do it all without the hipster tag. The band grew up on heavy doses of Queen, The Beatles, The Byrds and Foo Fighters which can be heard in their music. Formed after meeting in college four years ago, The Kicks ended up being one of the most talked about non-Country bands in Nashville. They’ve supported John Mayer and Los Lonely Boys, showcased at Austin City Limits and performed on the Van’s Warped Tour. Their song, “Good Morning,” was used in a national television ad campaign for Lowe’s, which was heard by millions and other tunes were used in TV shows such as “The Vampire Diaries”and “Pretty Little Liars.” Their new album, Tonight Changes Everything, with the guidance of Grammy Award winning producers Mitch Dane and Vance Powell (Jack White, Kings of Leon), was released last week and features the infectious track “Hawk Eyes,”.
